    1862-1951
    American artist from Salem, Massachusetts known for his Realistic portraits, American Impressionist paintings, watercolors and etchings.

THE VANDERPOEL ART ASSOCIATION was founded in 1913 by friends of John H. Vanderpoel,
as a memorial to this celebrated instructor from Chicago’s School of the Art Institute.

Legendary artist Georgia O’Keeffe praised him as “one of the few real teachers I have known.”
